Vera Propp, author of
When the Soldiers Were Gone
has a new book!

When Grandma gave Bonnie the family candlesticks for her 12th birthday in Arizona, she was intrigued to discover that the candlesticks came with a mystery and a need for secrecy.

As this teen age novel continues the reader finds out that all Bonnie’s ancestors heard of this mystery and need for secrecy when they were 12 years old and received the candlesticks. Near the end of the novel Bonnie feels compelled to discover the origins of the mysterious secret she has kept. She contacts all the living relatives whose names Grandma has given her. At the end Bonnie and her new found cousin Margarita learn that the secret mystery is more important and far reaching than either of them had suspected in their wildest dreams.

Will the rest of the family be ready for these revelations?

Eight-year-old Henk lives happily on a farm in Holland with his loving papa and mama-until Henk's natural parents come to reclaim the child they had entrusted to papa and mama when the Jewish family was forced into hiding. The miracle of this tale, based on an actual wartime story, is the constancy of Henk's voice: we see his world entirely through his eyes.
